Hi my name is Miriam Maguire. I am married with three children. I am originally from Cork but have been living in Skibbereen for nearly 17 years.
I worked as a lifeguard and children’s swimming teacher for seven years. I have a certificate of Distinction in FETAC Level 6 & 6 Childcare. Subjects completed in this course included: Child Development, Special Needs, Early Childhood Education, Working in Childcare, Caring for Children 0-6 years, Art, Communication and Word Processing.
As part of the FETAC Level 5 & 6 I completed work placements in Rath National School & my work here in the Naíonra. I gained experience as a classroom assistant and working with different age groups and facilitating their needs.
In 2010 I joined the Naíonra in the old building in the Gaelscoil working on a part-time basis. Before joining the staff of the Naíonra, I worked as a crèche and playschool assistant. My favourite aspect of working with children is watching how they interact with each other and their delight when they learn something new or acquire a new skill. And of course, the funny things they say.
